Meet Mileah


Mileah Kromer


Mileah Kromer
wants to know what people are thinking. She has built a successful career understanding public opinion and how it shapes measurable outcomes.

She founded Federal Hill Research Group to help nonprofits, public affairs agencies, governments, and businesses understand how the public views the issues that matter most to their goals. Mileah brings more than a decade of experience designing and executing survey research projects.

She serves as the founding Director of the UMBC Institute of Politics. Prior to joining UMBC, she directed the Sarah T. Hughes Center for Politics at Goucher College, home of the Goucher College Poll. Her polling work in Maryland since 2012 has gained national recognition and been cited in the New York Times, MSNBC, The Atlantic, Politico, The Washington Post, and CNN, among others.

Mileah knows how to effectively communicate survey results to the media and public audiences. Her commentary regularly appears in statewide media and she is a frequent guest on local public affairs programming, including Midday on WYPR and On the Record on 11 TV Hill, WBAL-TV’s Sunday morning news show. Her opinion writing has appeared in Politico Magazine, The Washington Post, The Baltimore Banner, The Hill, Maryland Matters, and CNN. In 2020, she was named as one of The Daily Record’s Most Influential Marylanders.

Mileah spent four years at Elon University as assistant director of the Elon University Poll, designing surveys on North Carolina politics and policy. Prior to that, she spent five years at Louisiana State University’s Public Policy Research Lab while completing her Ph.D. in political science.

She was born and raised in small town Western Pennsylvania but now resides in the Federal Hill neighborhood of Baltimore City.
